Peninsula In Pink
The Peninsula Shanghai inspires guests to once again appreciate all things pink for the Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. This year, the Art of Pink theme has forged a unique partnership with Chen Man, China’s most celebrated avant-garde photographer and multimedia artist whose works have been exhibited at many major art cities across the world, including France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan and Hong Kong.
On this occasion, the artist is presenting “Nao Nao” (挠挠), an exclusively commissioned art piece –‘Long Live the Motherland.Shanghai.1’ which is now installed and displayed at The Peninsula Shanghai.
'Long Live the Motherland.Shanghai1' is one of Chen Man’s most famous works, featuring the eye-catchingly vibrant red of the national flag and the woman’s dress set against the Shanghai skyline. The concept of this work represents the intricate balance between tradition and modernity in the Chinese society.
The art piece is covered by two pink dots - symbols of breasts and a colon, which is the punctuation preceding a conversation. Visitors can personally interact with the artwork by using nao nao bamboo stick to gently scrape the dots and slowly unveil the image behind. Nao nao is available for purchase at the hotel while the artwork will be auctioned through the paddle8, an online auction house for art and design, from 17 - 31 October 2016.
In addition to the Peninsula in Pink initiatives, guests at The Peninsula Shanghai can also enjoy specially designed pink-themed welcome amenities, as well as dining and spa experiences throughout October.
The Peninsula in Pink Afternoon Tea is a popular highlight of every Peninsula in Pink campaign, featuring sweet and savoury delicacies that creatively adapt Chen Man’s custom art concept in a whimsical fashion. Additionally, One-Michelin-star Sir Elly’s along with The Lobby serve a pink-inspired dessert—“two dots” to promote the Peninsula in Pink campaign. Bespoke Pretty in Pink spa package at The Peninsula Spa provides relaxation and indulgence for a good cause.
Proceeds from the auction of the artwork on paddle8 and the sale of nao nao and all pink-inspired offers throughout October will be donated to the China Breast Cancer Foundation.
