To commence the festivities for the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, Chef Yip Wing Wah hosted a ‘Moon-rageously Delicious’ Mooncake Master Class for media guests and kids on 29 July at Yi Long Court.
Nobody knows more about baking delicious custard mooncakes than The Peninsula Hotels Dim Sum Ambassador and Master Chef, Yip Wing Wah. After all, it was Chef Yip who created The Peninsula’s world-famous hand-made mooncakes by adapting a traditional Chinese recipe in Hong Kong to a lighter, more delicious formula.

Chef Yip’s master class gathered 10 media guests, each donning a personally monogrammed apron. After preparing the dough and special custard filling, they followed Chef Yip’s instructions to shape the mooncakes using a traditional wooden mould. The sweet treats were then placed in the oven and baked until golden. A video demonstrating how to make the perfect custard mooncake was launched after the class, and each media guest received a commemorative wooden mooncake mould personally autographed by Chef Yip.
The ‘Moon-rageously Delicious’ season continued with two more master classes for journalists and food writers, on 1 and 15 August 2015, at The Peninsula Boutique’s Chocolate Making Room. On 29 August, junior guests take their turn in The Peninsula kichens when a special Art-rageous Kids Academy class will teach young chefs the secrets of hand-making a perfect Peninsula Mooncake.
